Approach

Creating Safety communications and training material that engages the audience, can be a daunting task for HSE professionals undertake. The industry is saturated with a rinse and repeat approach to delivering key messaging.  We for that we need to consider the audiences willingness to view content, the information that is contained in that content and the information retention following viewing/accessing it when producing this type of internal comms.

With a common goal of audience engagement, OrchardLabs helped Netflix to create a new kind of safety communications. Breaking tradition and leveraging techniques from other industries to develop a suite of content to be delivered across all teams internationally, throughout the Netflix productions.

We worked alongside Netflix and their teams to create 11 videos in 11 languages (to be translated into more in the future) to communicate best practice when dealing with the most common risks areas to those working on sets.

They were split 4 categories.

  1. Telling Stories Safely

  2. The Foundations

  3. The Hazards

  4. and The Cultural Lifesavers

Using the Netflix catalogue of content, we told the story using clips in a trailer style approach. We composited the Icons that were representing the hazards directly into the footage to show presence of risk in the filming process and delivered a suite of Health and safety content like no other.

I have worked on a couple of projects with Dai over the last 2 years, I have been really impressed with what we have produced and the innovation, partnership and energy in his approach.
